Introduction
Computer technology is used to serve and connect people in the modern world. Desktops, laptops and mobile devices network the world together and perform multiple operations at once; however, this industry includes more than these machines. Individuals, communities, government and organizations rely on computer technology to produce or innovate the majority of things in their lives, such as food, services, entertainment, care, communication, education and transportation.
Computer technology plays a major role in nearly every sector of daily life including education, health, shopping and even in homes. Computers help streamline processes to make day-to-day activities more convenient.
No matter where people live in the United States, there is a good chance that computers play a major role in many of their daily tasks. Whether or not a person owns a personal computer, tablet or smartphone, computer technology is used in many of the services and products that a person uses every day. From education to healthcare to business, computer technology has helped to boost productivity and efficiency in nearly every sector.
Education
People will find computers in most educational institutions from universities all the way down to preschools. Those living in remote locations can now access content and courses to study from abroad. Students can use computers to research and access information quickly for projects. Schools are no longer limited to the information found in books on their shelves. They have access to information from all over the world on the Internet. Computers are also powerful teaching aids in that they allow students to watch videos, look at art and listen to music.
Entertainment
From movies on the big screen to TV shows on the little screen, entertainment productions often use some sort of computer technology to create and edit the video before it goes on the screen. Video game systems and mobile phone applications all use computer technology for entertainment as well. Computer technology also allows people to access their entertainment in a much smaller package. There is no longer a need for hundreds of CDs and movies when the digital files all fit on a single device. This also means fewer resources used and less waste heading to the landfill.
Healthcare
Computer technology has helped streamline healthcare, taking some of the burden off care workers and giving patients access to better care. Charts and information stored electronically are easier to sort and find, so patients do not have to wait when time is of the essence. Doctors use computers to help make a diagnosis quicker so they can put patients on a treatment regimen right away. Computers are also important in laboratories for scanning, imaging and testing purposes.
Business
Computers have had a major impact in the business sector. With the help of computers, employees are more productive and customers are better served. Companies can communicate with each other in a matter of seconds via email rather than having to wait for letters to go through the mail. Workers can recall information quickly rather than having to sort through a filing cabinet. Customers can access their bank accounts 24 hours per day rather than having to wait until business hours. Computers have even given the workers freedom to work remotely without having to step foot into the office.
Computer technology has helped the world to grow and evolve quickly. By performing tasks quickly, computers make daily activities more convenient. They give people access to a wide array of information and can reach even the most remote locations on the planet.
