Government College of Technology Swabi is one of the biggest Technical institutions of the province. GCT Swabi is situated at Jehangira road at a distance of about 5 Kms from swabi Town, on a small hill between Panjpir and Shahmansoor. Standing on the hill and looking to the west, the historical Sher Shah Soori Road can be viewed. Toward South West the Historical place “Hund” exist. Several historians are of the view that the real and historical Lahore is at short distance of 8 KM fro the premises of the college campus.
The area and especially this small mount is having a huge treasure of historical remains in its breast. Starting in 1984, as Government Vocational Institute with a few students, it has now grown up as Government College of Technology running Diploma of Associate Engineering courses in five Technologies. In 1994, the Vocational Institute was upgraded to the level of Government Polytechnic Institute and D.A.E in two technologies i.e Electrical and Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technology were commenced.
In 1997, third technology was started with the discipline of Computer Hardware. It is important to mention that R & A C Technology only exist in this college through out Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Mechanical Technology was added to the college in 2005. In 2007 the status was upgraded to the College of Technology level and Civil Technology was also started in 2011 on the demand of students from District Swabi.
